HB619 Passes House With Important Amendment

House Bill 619 passed the New Hampshire House today with a bipartisan vote of 199-175 after an overwhelming 202-167 bipartisan vote to adopt the amendment.

While the original bill was wide ranging, the version that is headed to the Senate narrowly addresses genital gender reassignment surgery in minors. If signed into law, New Hampshire will tell doctors that if they want to keep their license to practice they have to wait until a patient is 18 for these procedures.

There is a large set of definitions which clearly lay out that intersex individuals, born with anatomic or physiologic abnormalities, are not included in this limit and that treating malignancy, malformation injury or physical disease is also not included in this limit.
